I was never a fan of Mike Ditka the former head coach of the Chicago Bears, but I am now.
(TCP News) We need more people like Mike Ditka. During his career as the Chicago Bears head coach, Mike wasn’t too concerned about being popular. Add to that, Ditka said it like it was, or at least how he saw it. Nowadays, everyone is all up in arms about being politically correct and not offending someone. Heaven forbid you should express your opinion and it would trigger someone, can’t have that now can we?
In a recent (09/14/2020) interview with Newsmax TV Ditka said, “If you can’t respect this country, get the hell out of it.”
NFL ?: Hall-of-Fame coach Mike Ditka tells protesting players that if ‘they can’t respect this country, get the hell out of it.’ [with Newsmax TV’s @ShaunKraisman https://t.co/VlT7z8drtO] pic.twitter.com/E3jPCBrMdt

The Bears former coach told Newsmax that he did not understand why players choose not to stand for the National Anthem.
“He suggested that players who don’t want to be on the field for the national anthem should ‘go to another country and play there.’”
Exactly, these athletes are paid into the millions to play football and other sports. This country gave them that opportunity, and these over-paid narcissistic players in turn disrespect their own country.
I’m ok with these players protesting, they can protest anything they want to, our Constitution grants them that right and I will be among the first to remind others of that. That being said, there is a time and a place for protest – during the National Anthem isn’t one of them.
I have long said, if you don’t like my country, if you cannot show proper respect for your own flag and anthem, not to mention by extension those that fought and died to grant you the possibility of playing pro sports – then get out, and don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!
Ditka also had this to say:
“It’s not a complicated thing,” he said. “You play the game, you enjoy the game, if you don’t like the game, get out of it.”
He added, “You play football, that’s it. You’re privileged, you got a gift from God that you can play the game because you got a body you can do it with.”
It used to be that professional sports players, actors etc. held themselves to a higher standard, it was expected, they were people to be looked up to in other words.
Today these same people have a different standard, it just so happens not to be a higher one, more like a lower one, like down in the cesspool. The standard these days seems to be that when you make the big time, you have a responsibility to run your mouth, use foul language, be insulting, disrespect our country, and generally make an ass of yourself while being anything but a role model.
In some closing comments Ditka had this to say:
“I don’t really understand what you’re protesting. I played the game, I coached the game for a long time, and it makes no sense to me. You ought to get down on your hands and knees and thank God every day that you can make the kind of money that you can make playing football, or playing any sport.”
Play the game, respect your country, give thanks to God, and protest somewhere else.
