GOP Lawmakers LIVID Over Twitter, Facebook Censorship of NYPost Story

Leading Republicans were furious following the Twitter and Facebook dumpster fire of censorship yesterday.

Both sites censored an article from the New York Post, which claimed to expose the alleged corrupt dealings of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden in Ukraine. Twitter disabled the link and Facebook reduced the story’s circulation on their respective platforms.

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) eviscerated Facebook and Twitter in two separate letters in the wake of the censorship. In the letter to Facebook, he said, “The seemingly selective nature of this intervention suggests partiality on the part of Facebook.” Hawley’s press office tweeted that “he will call @Twitter and @Facebook to testify on potential violations of federal election law in their censorship of the New York Post’s reporting on Hunter Biden.”

Last night, on The Ingram Angle, Hawley said that he asked the Federal Election Commission to investigate what “looks like an in-kind contribution to the Biden campaign.”

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) tweeted: “@Twitter and @Facebook’s censorship of the @nypost story on a meeting between Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, and Burisma is an obvious and transparent attempt to influence the upcoming election. That’s why today I sent a letter seeking answers behind this censorship.” The tweet included a picture of the letter he sent to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, demanding answers for why Twitter censored the article.

In a letter to Twitter, Cruz called Twitter’s censorship “hypocritical, given its willingness to allow users to share less-than-well-sourced reporting critical of other candidates for public office.”

Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA) commented: “Let me get this straight: When a bombshell story breaks about the Bidens – the media doesn’t cover it and makes excuses for them – tech companies suppress it and block you from even sharing it[.] Unbelievable. Imagine the media meltdown if this was about @DonaldJTrumpJr.”

Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) tweeted: “Big Tech claims they aren’t biased against Conservatives. So why are they suppressing speech to help the Democrats? Section 230!”

Even the House Judiciary GOP tweeted: “Twitter has blocked users from tweeting the link to the @nypost’s story on Hunter Biden. So we put it on our website for you to read and share. Click, share, and RT!” The account also posted a link to the House Judiciary Republicans website where users could find the story.

Lawmakers are now calling for emergency action against Facebook and Twitter. Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA) said in a tweet: “Big Tech isn’t even trying to hide it. They’re bending over backwards to protect @JoeBiden & interfere in America’s election. Monopolies like @Twitter & @Facebook have the power to sway the outcome by censoring information. @GOPoversight and I are demanding emergency action.” The comment included a letter to House Committee on Oversight and Reform Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney, requesting emergency action against Facebook and Twitter. It was signed by every Republican member of the committee.

Conservatives are under attack. Contact Facebook headquarters at 1-650-308-7300 and Twitter at (415) 222-9670 and demand that Big Tech be held to account to mirror the First Amendment while providing transparency, clarity on “hate speech” and equal footing for conservatives. If you have been censored, contact us at the Media Research Center contact form, and help us hold Big Tech accountable.
