Telemundo Hypes Increased Border Crossings

Telemundo makes clear that border crossings will increase under a Biden administration, and frames descriptions of a “crisis at the border” as a pro-Border Patrol strategy. Interestingly enough, this is EXACTLY what all of the liberal Spanish-language media in the United States have been blithering for the last four years when referring to President Trump´s immigration policies: crisis at the border!

Of course, they depend on a steady flow of immigrants for audience, and as this Telemundo News clip shows, anchors and reporters are hyping an upcoming surge of illegal crossings by people like Olvin, an illegal immigrant featured in this December 16, 2020 report:

FRANCISCO FAJARDO: With the Biden administration a few weeks away, the Border Patrol states that there is an increase in the number of arrests. While there were just over 405,000 arrests along the border for the entire fiscal year 2020, there have been 135,000 arrests between October and November. In Tijuana shelters, deported migrants like Olvin will seek to try to cross again, once there is a new president.

OLVIN RODRIGUEZ: The main thing is, he says he’s not going to continue with the wall. That’s the most important thing, isn’t it? He’s not going to continue with the wall.

FAJARDO: Today on the Fox network, the Commissioner of the Customs and Border Protection Office blamed the increase on the Biden administration before they’ve even begun.

Activists are not surprised by these statements and they say that over the next few months, we will constantly hear the word “crisis in the border”. According to them, this would be the Border Patrol’s strategy against the Biden administration.

The report, introduced by veteran anchor Jose Diaz-Balart, began by stating that- “Detentions of immigrants at the border are on the rise. More than 135,000 immigrants have been captured between October and November alone”, compared to the 450,000 plus for the entire fiscal year 2020.

To emphasize just how excited Telemundo is about the prospect of more viewers (and thus advertising $$), the report went on to feature Olvin Rodriguez, a deported migrant who will “seek to try to cross again, once there is a new president.”

OLVIN RODRIGUEZ: The main things, is he (Biden) says he’s not going to go on with the wall. That’s the most important thing, isn’t it? He’s not going to go on with the wall.

In an attempt to make this all about Trump, correspondent Francisco Fajardo went on to say that “today on the Fox network, (Mark Morgan) the Commissioner of the Customs and Border Protection Office blamed the increase to the Biden administration before it even started.”

The Telemundo report left out several crucial facts: Biden has stated that he will open the borders, grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens that are currently in the U.S. within his first 100 days in office, and halt construction of the southern border wall. Also, like Morgan said – “cartels and human smugglers are fueling perceptions that our borders will once again be wide open, and that we will be reinstating the loopholes that have been closed.”

Expect this focus on what is bound to happen, much to the satisfaction of Univision, Telemundo, CNN En Español and Estrella TV: a massive border surge in times of COVID-19.

Let advertisers like Wendy´s know about the bias they sponsor in the Hispanic Media.

MARK MORGAN, ACTING CBP COMMISSIONER: I’m predicting that if they do what they promise they’re going to do, specifically get rid of the MPP, for example, you will see another crisis at our border, and it will pale in comparison to what we saw last year.

FAJARDO: Activists are not surprised by these statements and they say that over the next few months, we will constantly hear the word “crisis in the border”. According to them, this would be the Border Patrol’s strategy against the Biden administration.

PEDRO RIOS: This change of narrative is done on purpose, because they will now face an administration that is possibly in conflict with the interests of the Border Patrol.
