In exchange for beating Portugal and qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, President Aleksandar Vucic has given the Serbian soccer team a present of €1 million in cash.
Serbia’s squad were promised a bonus of €1 million by president Aleksandar Vucic if they beat Portugal & secured direct qualification to the 2022 World Cup.

On Sunday in Lisbon, the Serbian soccer team won 2-1 over the Portuguese squad in a friendly match.
According to striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who spoke to Serbia’s Nova television, “we came here to play football and having been the better side, we deserved it all.”

“As a result of our efforts and the conviction that we would be able to overcome the odds and defeat Portugal, we are receiving the benefits. We are pleased, first and foremost for the sake of our nation and its people.”
As soon as the national team returned to Serbia, the funds were promptly deposited to the Football Union of Serbia’s account, where they remain today (FSS).
In the end, however, they opted to give their earnings “to those who need it most – ailing youngsters in need of medical attention.”
